Prey Veng Provincial Court yesterday charged three people over the rape of a 17-year-old garment factory worker in Preah Sdach district.
Nuth Vannak, a military police officer with the anti-human trafficking and juvenile protection department in Prey Veng province, identified the three accused as Ton Reach, 21, Phan Seiha, 18, and Vorn Sokrithy, 16. All three lived in Sathea village in Rumchek commune, he added.
Mr Vannak said they were arrested on Saturday and the court yesterday charged them with sexually assaulting a minor. They each face imprisonment of seven to 15 years if convicted. The accused have been detained pending their trial.
Mr Vannak said the three accused and the victim were acquainted. On April 15, at about 5.30pm, the four of them went to a Khmer New Year concert in Neak Loeung district.
He said they started drinking beer and the victim was sexually assaulted at a guesthouse in Peam Rour district after she had gotten drunk. The accused then fled the scene on motorbikes.
“After they brought the victim to the guesthouse room, they raped her,” he said.
“After they sexually assaulted her, they left her at the guesthouse and fled.”
The victim reported the assault to her parents, who then lodged a report to the police.
