The Interior Minister yesterday unveiled a shake-up of senior police officials in Takeo and Mondulkiri provinces.

Sar Kheng signed an official letter to say that Takeo police chief Ouk Samnang will be transferred to the same job in Mondulkiri province.

Touch Yon, current police chief in Mondulkiri, will be promoted to deputy chief of the border police department at the General Commissariat of National Police.

. .

Sok Samnag, a deputy chief in the Immigration Department, will take over as police chief in Takeo.

San Chey, executive director of the Affiliated Network for Social Accountability, warned that the officers may be less effective once transferred away from their local areas and usual roles.

“We are concerned their work will not be effective. When armed forces or civil servants are transferred to other provinces, they don’t understand the local context,” Mr Chey said.

“The government should promote officials already working in those provinces, because they understand the local situation and needs of people.”
