Khmer New Year extravaganza launched at Hun Sen Park

Deputy Governor of Phnom Penh H.E. Huot Hay officiates the Khmer New Year celebrations at Hun Sen Park.

In conjunction with this year’s Khmer New Year, the Deputy Governor of Phnom Penh, H.E. Huot Hay and NagaWorld management joined hands in ushering in the celebrations with a special lighting up ceremony, followed by spectacular performances featuring both cultural and international acts.

With the launch of this extravaganza, Hun Sen Park has been transformed into a buzzing venue with an exciting line-up of activities for all to enjoy from now till 22 April.

Held in a joyous carnival-like atmosphere, the unique outdoor event presents a mesmerising experience for everyone with special decorations, cultural performances, fun activities and spectacular music parties featuring a host of local celebrities.

Organised by NagaWorld in collaboration with City Hall, it is the first large-scale outdoor Khmer New Year celebration, the perfect venue for locals and tourists to come together to revel in the festivities and appreciate the culture, traditions and Khmer hospitality of Cambodia’s biggest annual festival.

In addition to spectacular performances, gigantic features and festive decorations are illuminated in the evening and will remain on display at the park throughout the event, creating ideal opportunities for the perfect “selfie” moment with family and friends.

The larger-than-life objects include a huge dog marking the start of an auspicious Year of the Dog in the Khmer calendar, as well as other equally interesting features such as a Mekong lobster, swans, hot air balloons and more.

A weekend music extravaganza with popular local celebrities will be held at Hun Sen Park from 20 to 22 April, between 2pm and 11pm daily, along with traditional Apsara dancers, local and international bands, musicians and street performers.

Cambodian music fans can enjoy awesome performances from TV star Sokun Nisa and established vocalist Khemarak Sereymun on Friday 20 April, from 9pm.

On Saturday night, the crowd will be treated to songs from The Voice Kids Cambodia winner Pich Thai, energetic duo Kmeng Khmer and young female starlet Yuri. The final concert on Sunday night, 22 April, will showcase rap star G-Devith, Pich Thai, and the three sons of local legend Preap Sovath – Sovath Monivann, Sovath Monineak and Sovath Sereyvuth.

Free concerts by popular artistes from 20 to 22 April, 9pm.

Admission is free for all, so bring along your family and friends to experience the endless excitement at the Times Square of Phnom Penh.
