LOCAL telecommunication companies have been told to settle their debt with the government by the end of this month or face legal action.

An inter-ministry announcement dated April 2 and signed by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication urged telecommunication companies to settle their debts with the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication, Telecom Cambodia, and Telecommunication Regulator of Cambodia by April 30.

Failing to comply by the aforementioned deadline will result in serious action by the authorities, according to the statement from the ministries.

Some of the punitive measures mentioned in the statement include publishing the name of the debtors in national media, freezing executives’ bank accounts, revoking business licences and filling lawsuits against the companies.
