The National Military Police are seeking the arrest of a provincial military police official for his involvement in an illegal shooting over the weekend in Kampot province.
Major Sok Vichetr, a military officer with Kampot provincial military police, identified the suspect as Colonel Seak Ang, deputy commander of Kep provincial military police, who is now at large.
Maj Vichetr said that on Friday night at about 10.30pm, Col Ang and two military officer friends went for drinks and sang karaoke at the Veasna Sabay Night Club in Kraing village in Kampot city’s Kraing Ampil commune. They drank until midnight.
He said that at about that time, Col Ang, who was drunk, asked a beer promotion girl to have sex with him at a guesthouse, but she refused.
Maj Vichetr said that after paying for his food and drinks, Col Ang walked out of the night club. He then pulled a pistol from his waist and fired six bullets into the air.
No one was injured in the shooting, Maj Vichetr added. After the shooting spree, Col Ang fled from the scene on his motorbike.
“He was drunk and angry at the girl for turning down his sexual advances,” he said. “Out of frustration, he fired into the air and fled.”
Major General Eng Hy, spokesman for the National Military Police, said that military police had not yet arrested the suspect. He added the suspect stood accused of allegedly using firearms in public.
“The military police in Kampot are now working on the case. The military have already summoned the suspect for questioning,” Maj Gen Hy said.
