Three Cambodians Arrested in Thailand for Illegal Crossing

Border authorities at the Chup Korki checkpoint in Banteay Ampil district’s Ampil commune is communicating with their Thai counterparts regarding three Cambodians arrested Sunday morning after they were caught by Thai border officers illegally crossing into Thailand’s Buriram province, according to officials.

The national police identified the three as Vev Vuth, 36; Vey, 25 and Pep Peay, 41 and are now in the custody of Thai authorities.

Banteay Ampil district police chief Ham Phirum said that Chup Korki authorities are cooperating with the Thais and confirmed that Chup Korki border checkpoint officers are trying to seek negotiation with the Thais.

“They are three Cambodian citizens. They were arrested by Thai border authorities for illegally crossing to log timber on their side of the border.”

“According to the information we received, they’re now being sent to Buriram province,” officer Phirum said.

Chup Korki border checkpoint chief Yoeum Vibol said that his officer was collecting more information from his Thai counterpart.
