A 43-year-old Bunong man on Saturday killed his wife using a knife and then committed suicide in Mondulkiri province, district police said yesterday.
Major Moeun Sopheak, deputy chief of O’Raing district police, identified the man as Ngoeum Rim and the victim as Kleuy Soke, 40.
Maj Sopheak said the couple lived in Sen Monorom commune, where they were farmers and had three children.
He added that the murder-suicide took place on Saturday at about 9am near their home.Maj Sopheak said that on the day of murder, the wife was collecting tree leaves to make soup.
The husband, who suffered from a mental illness, took a knife and chopped her many times on her neck from behind, killing her immediately, said Maj Sopheak.
“After killing his wife, he then committed suicide by taking a vegetable knife to slash his own throat,” said Maj Sopheak. “He died along with his wife and was found nearby his wife’s body.”
Maj Sopheak said the bodies were later found by neighbours, who reported it to police.
