The Cambodian Davis Cup squad will meet Malaysia this afternoon for their Asia/Oceania group III Davis Cup opener at Hanoi’s My Dinh Sports complex.
The news was revealed yesterday after Sunday’s draw which pit Cambodia in group A alongside Vietnam, Pacific Oceania and Malaysia. Group B is made up of Kuwait, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Syria.
Cambodia regained a coveted group III spot in 2017 and earned the distinction of finishing their campaign undefeated after seeing off Oman in their promotion playoff in the Davis Cup Group IV Asia/Oceania round in Bahrain.
Cambodia’s 2017 campaign opener was a win over regional challengers Myanmar at the start of the five-team Pool A round robin.
This year, Cambodia are represented on the courts by Bun Kenny, Phalkun Mam, Samneang Long, and Kim Delton Sophanna.
The winner of Pool A will play-off against the runner-up of Pool B and the winner of Pool B will play-off against the runner-up of Pool A to determine which two nations will be promoted to Asia/Oceania Zone Group II in 2019.
In the relegation play-offs, the nations will compete in the following order: A3 v B5 and A4 v B4. The two losing nations will be relegated to Asia/Oceania IV in 2019.
