Abe, Trump to meet in US

WASHINGTON (AFP) – US President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will meet on April 17-18 to discuss the US leader’s planned summit with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, the White House confirmed yesterday. Mr Trump and Mr Abe will meet at Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida where they “will discuss the international campaign to maintain maximum pressure on North Korea.” The meeting, the third between the two leaders, will also explore ways to expand fair and reciprocal trade and investment ties.Mr Abe, who announced the visit yesterday at a meeting with ruling lawmakers, said he plans to ask Mr Trump to discuss issues related to North Korea’s abduction of Japanese citizens.
