A 50-year-old British man was arrested in Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district on Friday after police raided his rental home and found him to be illegally growing marijuana.

Colonel Choem Sitha, Dangkor district police chief, said yesterday that district police officers were given permission from the municipal court’s deputy prosecutor to raid the man’s home in Choeung Ek commune.

“British national Wayne Brewer, 50, was arrested on Friday,” Col Sitha said, adding that Mr Brewer was sent to the municipal court for questioning yesterday morning.

Col Sitha said that a farmer had lost his cows and went looking for them when he found the marijuana growing in buckets on Mr Brewer’s compound. The farmer then reported his discovery to district police.

Another district police officer said police found marijuana growing in 25 plastic buckets while 53 other buckets had been broken from a previous marijuana harvest.

Ly Sophanna, spokesman for Phnom Penh Municipal Court, said the prosecutor had already received the case and was following procedures.
