The Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction yesterday issued land titles to nearly 800 families living on social land concessions in Kampong Thom province’s Santuk district.
The ministry said the land concessions and following land titles have contributed to a reduction in poverty and improved the living conditions for the families in Ti Por commune.
The ministry said it provided land titles to 776 families, equivalent to 1,351 land titles, living on social land concessions provided by the government.
The ministry said each family has received a plot of land 30 metres by 40 metres for housing and 1.5 to three hectares of land for farming.
In addition, the ministry has developed the area with 17 public service projects, including schools, health centres and new roads.
Land Management Minister Chea Sophara said the people who received the land titles had lived on the land for five years.
“This is an example of the government aiding those in need,” he said. “These families had nowhere else to live, and this property can now stay within their families forever.”
Kampong Thom Governor Sok Lou said that the provision of the land titles was the second phase of a land distribution plan for social and economic development.
“Land is our life, so the people must try to keep it,” he said.
