A Cambodian delegation, comprising tour and travel agents and media representatives, was invited to visit Lombok, an island east of Bali in Indonesia, on March 22. The visit was organised by the Embassy of Indonesia in Phnom Penh together with the Asosiasi Pariwisata Islami Indonesia (APII)/ Indonesian Tourism Association of Halal Travel Agencies (TAHTA).
The familiarisation trip was to help promote tourism in Lombok through cultural and food promotion events. Lombok was recently awarded the World’s Best Halal Tourism Destination and also the World’s Best Honeymoon Destination.
Besides being the mainland home of the three popular Gili Islands located just off its north-west coast, Lombok is also known for its colourful Sasak culture, great dive spots, scenic and secluded beaches, beautiful waterfalls and lush forests surrounding its active volcano, Mount Rinjani.
There are daily flights between Denpasar, Bali and the capital of Lombok, Mataram. Lombok International Airport in Tanah Awu, Central Lombok District, is located about 30 kilometres or an hour drive south east of Mataram.
In mainland Lombok, you can get around by renting motorcycle or cars from trusted providers. Public transportations are a natural-air conditioned minibus called ‘bemo’.
