At least eight people have been killed and more than 30 seriously injured in a traffic accident in Battambang province on Saturday, police said.
Battambang provincial governor Chan Sophal told Khmer Times that the incident occurred about 3:40 pm between a bus traveling from Phnom Penh to Battambang and a truck travelling in the opposite direction on National Road 5 in Sangker district.
He said the 34 injured had been taken to hospital. The dead include a woman and a monk.
“What we can do now is bring those injured people to hospital. We are not sure if more people will die from their severe injuries,” he said.
Traffic accidents are one of the biggest causes of death in the Kingdom. An average six people die and 16 are injured every day on roads across the nation.
