A farmer in Oddar Meanchey province discovered a cache of unexploded bombs on Saturday while excavating part of his land to create a pond for irrigation.

A provincial police report said the 28 unexploded ordnances were discovered in Kon Kriel commune.

The farmer notified local authorities, who then enlisted the help of provincial police to pull in anti-mines NGO Halo Trust.

Halo Trust administration manager Sieng Sokvy confirmed that the bombs found on Saturday were destroyed at the site.

“We already destroyed them,” he said. “Our staff went there along with the police and the villagers that own the land.”
