Teacher convicted of student sex abuse

Kampong Chhnang provincial court has issued an arrest warrant for a primary school teacher convicted to five years in prison for sexual abusing four students in his care.
 
Kem Chanchhen is on the run but was convicted in absentia and told he must pay a fine of 10 million riel ($2,500) to the state, plus 3 million riel in compensation to each victim.
 
Judge Ham Mengse said the assaults took place in Rolea Ba’ier district in 2013.
 
Khiev Khuy, a representative of the victims, welcomed the sentencing of the accused as the case has been going on for several years.
 
He urged police to find the suspect and jail him as soon as possible.
