A villager angered at being wakened by the loud radios of security guards attacked them with a sword, police said.

Sok Piseth, deputy chief of Boribo district police in Kampong Chhnang province, said the village guards were seriously injured in the incident on Monday.

The provincial court prosecutor charged farmer Koan Rameng, 28, with “intentional acts of violence with aggravating circumstances”. He faces up to five years in jail if convicted.

Mr Piseth said guards Rorn Rith and Loy Dos were patrolling Ponlai village.

When they were near the suspect’s house they operated their radios loudly, disturbing Mr Rameng’s sleep.

Mr Rameng became angry, picked up a sword and attacked them. Mr Rith was injured on his left hand and forehead, and Mr Dos on his left leg.

Mr Rameng fled the scene but was arrested the same night. Police confiscated a sword from him.
