Khmer prisoners freed by Thais

Ven Rathavong / Khmer Times Share:

Thai authorities yesterday released two Cambodian loggers and a convicted murder who had been detained in prison there.
National police said the loggers were repatriated to Cambodia through Choam Sangam International Border Checkpoint in Oddar Meanchey province.
Phan Theng, 31, and Chheoun Bunthoeun, 36, both from Oddar Meanchey, were arrested in January after they entered Thailand to log for rosewood.
Police said the other man, who was convicted of murder and had served six years in prison, was sent home through a secondary border check point in Oddar Meanchey.
He was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment after committing murder in 2010, but was released early after receiving a pardon from the Thai king.
