Two government officials have been chosen to become deputy Phnom Penh governors, according to a sub-decree issued on Thursday.

The sub-decree, signed by Prime Minister Hun Sen, said that Keut Chhe, currently the deputy governor of Pursat province and Nuon Pharath, currently the administration manager at the Council of Ministers, will be named as deputy Phnom Penh governors on Wednesday during a ceremony to mark the promotion of Khuong Sreng from deputy governor to governor of Phnom Penh.

“The ceremony of my position transferring will be held on June 28 and His Excellency Keut Chhe and Nuon Pharath will also be part of the ceremony at the same time,” said Mr Sreng, noting that Interior Minister Sar Kheng will preside over the event.

From 1998 to 2001, Mr Chee worked as an officer at the Ministry of Information. He then joined Phnom Penh city hall from 2001 to 2014, when he was appointed as the Pursat provincial governor.

“I will follow the orders of high-level officials,” Mr Chee said of his new position, declining to comment any further because it is not yet fully official.
