Soldiers and forestry officials have seized a large haul of rare rosewood from a truck in Kampong Chhnang province.
The wood was found hidden beneath bags of rice husks in the back of a truck travelling on National Road 5 in Samaki Meanchey district’s Svay commune.
Provincial military police deputy commander Hang Socheat said the driver of the truck managed to flee before officials could arrest him.
He said officers seized a total of 837 pieces of timber weighing almost 12 tonnes.
The wood was sent to the Kampong Tralach forestry administration while investigations into the crime continue, he added.
