The Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation will start dispensing pensions for former civil servants and veterans at select ATMs starting in April.
Minister Vong Soth issued a notice yesterday stating that pensioners will be able to withdraw their monthly allocations from Canadia Bank and Acleda Bank ATMs in all provinces and municipalities. The transactions will be free of charge.
The ministry also instructed pensioners, civil servants and veterans who intend to use the ATM service to go to either of the banks to present their family book, account information and identification card.
Cambodia’s Independent Civil Servants Association president Heak Pring said distributing monthly pensions through the banking system shows attention is being paid to address the difficulties faced by pensioners because some have complained about the hassle of traveling with their pension documents.
“If they can access pensions through the ATMs, it will be easy because they face difficulties having to take the time to come and get their pensions, filling in the forms and having to go to certain places for disability pensions. So it’s a good move,” he said.
The National Social Security Fund on Wednesday announced that a pension scheme for those in the private sector will be launched later this year.
To date, only retirees in the public sector are entitled to receive pensions.
