Elections watchdog Transparency International Cambodia has released its figures on turnout at the recent commune polls, coming up with a similar result to the National Election Committee.
According to analysis of 411 polling stations across country, TIC estimated turnout of 90.2 percent, while the preliminary NEC result put the figure at 89.5 percent.
TIC executive Preap Koul said vote share was estimated to be 49.4 percent for the ruling CPP and 43.2 percent for the opposition CNRP.
“TIC’s mission is to observe elections, promote transparency and build trust when everything goes according to the law. We hope to increase public confidence in the election process,” he said.
NEC spokesman Hang Puthea welcomed the support of organisations that help with the smooth running of elections.
However, he has declined to release the NEC’s prediction on vote share, saying he would wait until the official results are out on Sunday.
