A 29-year-old farmer was charged yesterday with killing his father in a frenzied attack with a cleaver.
The murder took place in Kandal village in Svay Rieng province on Tuesday evening.
Baveth City police officer Ros Sovann said Ly Ther was charged by the provincial court prosecutor with intentional murder.
Mr Sovann said that on Tuesday, Mr Ther got drunk drinking beer with friends in front of his house.
His father told him to stop drinking because he needed to work early the next morning, but he would not listen and the pair argued.
During the argument, the father slapped the suspect’s face and told him to go to bed.
Mr Sovann said Mr Ther became very angry after being hit.
He ran to get a cleaver from the house, and hacked his father many times, killing him on the spot.
“After killing his father he fled, but was later arrested by local police,” Mr Sovann said.
The maximum sentence for the charge is 15 years in prison.
