Three Filipinos were jailed yesterday for cheating an American tourist out of $480 in a card game in Siem Reap.

Mamerto Delema, 40, Antoinette Delema, 53, and Crisanta Vichitchat, 51, were convicted of defrauding Jacki Warren, 25.

Phnom Penh Municipal Court Judge Than Leng said: “The court decided to sentence them to eight months in prison each. The court ordered them to jointly pay to $480 to the plaintiff.”

Court documents say that in August last year, the accused persuaded the victim, whom they met in Siem Reap province, to  play cards with them at a guesthouse.

They won the money using card tricks then made off.

The victim went to police when she realised she had been cheated.

The Filipinos were arrested in Siem Reap the same month and sent to be detained in Phnom Penh.

During their trial last month they admitted their guilt and asked for leniency.
