A husband and wife were receiving medical treatment in two separate hospitals after a dispute led to the man stabbing the woman before turning the knife on himself.
The couple got into a row on the premises of a primary school in Kandal province’s Kien Svay district on Monday morning.
Provincial police chief Eav Chamroeun said the altercation was the result of a family problem and took place at about 8am.
“The suspect and the victim are married. They had been arguing when the husband pulled out a knife and stabbed the woman in the stomach,” he said.
“The husband then stabbed himself in the stomach twice as well.”
The husband was identified as Dorn Phearin, 27, and his wife as Lim Sok Eng, 22.
The husband was taken to Calmette hospital in Phnom Penh by his relatives, while the wife was taken to Chey Chumneas hospital, also in the capital.
Mr Eav said officers will pursue charges against the man.
