One seriously hurt in five-vehicle collision

A man was seriously injured and nine others hurt in a traffic accident involving five vehicles on national road 57B in Battambang’s Thmor Kaul district on Tuesday evening.

District deputy police chief Oeung Sovann said the accident was caused by reckless driving, breach of traffic laws and bad weather. 

“A truck driver had stopped on the road and got out to cover his load with a plastic tarp because it was raining. Another truck overtook the stopped vehicle and collided with a petrol truck coming in the opposite direction,” he said.

“A bus was approaching the scene at high speed and the driver was unable to brake quickly enough, so he also hit the statationary trucks and collided with a car.”

Mr Sovann said the bus driver, Thou Sambo, 25, was seriously injured with crushed legs He was being treated at the provincial hospital. 

Police were meanwhile processing evidence from the crash, Mr Sovann added.
