Police in Kandal province’s Muk Kampoul district have released 13 customers of a karaoke bar after detaining them for trading illegal drugs … and are now questioning the owner instead.
A police spokesman said the customers and bar owner’s wife were released on Monday evening after proving their innocence of drugs offences at the bar in Roka Kaong Pi commune.
He said that the owner, Yon Chantha, 47, opened the premises as a karaoke bar only but later wished to diversify. “The owner wished to expand the service to drug dealing to cater for customers’ demands,” he said.
Police said the operation also netted evidence including 13 bags of crystal meth and drug-related items.
“We questioned the customers and let them go after finding out that they were not using drugs,” said the spokesman.
He said it was now believed that Mr Chantha had hidden drugs he hoped to trade and he was yesterday being detained for questioning.
