An Immigration Department raid netted 93 Vietnamese and Chinese nationals yesterday at a construction site in Phnom Penh’s Daun Penh district.
A joint operation between government and city officials resulted in the arrests of 51 Chinese and 42 Vietnamese for illegally entering Cambodia and working without the correct permits.
“We arrested them and sent them for further questioning at the Immigration Department,” said Major General Uk Heisela of the Immigration Department.
In the first five months of this year, the department arrested and deported more than 1,000 illegal immigrants, most of them Vietnamese, after confirming they had been living and working illegally in the kingdom.
According to an Immigration Department report, 3,509 illegal immigrants were last year deported and banned permanently from returning to the kingdom.
