Families flee flash floods

Sen David / Khmer Times Share:

Families in more than 50 homes have been evacuated in Pailin province after heavy rain brought flooding to Sala Krao district.
The flash floods, which started on Sunday, have affected 53 houses, 43 seriously.
District deputy police chief Ry Dara said more houses would be flooded if the rain continued.
Animals as well as families had been brought to safety.
Sem Van from Stung Trang commune said he and his family had moved to his sibling’s house.
“A lot of rain fell in a few days. It has destroyed my farm. The flooding has not yet gone down,” he said.
“My family and I have moved to stay temporarily at my sibling’s house in Pailin city.”
The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology says rain will be so heavy it will bring flooding in some areas until Sunday.
Sin Nam Yong, a Poipet commune chief, said the rain had flooded the city, but not as seriously as the villagers’ houses.
Poipet’s Rong Kler market has also been affected, creating difficulties for vendors.
