Justice Ministry falls prey to hackers

The Justice Ministry has asked police to track down those responsible for hacking its Facebook page on Saturday and posting messages supporting the opposition CNRP.

Kim Santepheap, undersecretary of state and spokesman for the ministry, told officers his personal email account was also hijacked.

The hackers took control of the Facebook page until yesterday and posted information in support of the CNRP’s commune election campaign.

Mr Santepheap said: “I asked the national police to find the perpetrators and punish them according to the law. I have been told expert officials are working the case.”

CNRP spokesman Yim Sovann said his party had nothing to do with the hack.

“CNRP does not do fake news,” Mr Sovann said. “If we want to broadcast commune election campaigns, we post them on His Excellency Sam Rainsy’s page, because many people view it.”

The National Police could not be reached for comment.
