The opposition CNRP held a third extraordinary congress yesterday to confirm the official appointment of its three vice-presidents.

The Interior Ministry had deemed the election of Pol Ham, Mu Sochua and Eng Chhay Eang as being invalid in March, because it had not been formally informed when the party amended internal rules.

However, the ministry finally acknowledged amendments to the internal regulations at the start of this month, putting an end to the weeks-long fracas between the two parties.

CNRP spokesman Yim Sovann said the two-hour congress reaffirmed the appointments, adding he was confident his party had followed Interior Ministry rules this time.

“There is no reason for the party’s vice-presidents to be rejected now,” Mr Sovann said.
