A 43-year-old village security guard in Kampong Speu province has been arrested for beating his wife and trashing their house after she refused to have sex with him on Saturday night.

The suspect was identified as Song Chamrong. He was arrested on Sunday after his wife Nay Ky, 35, filed a police complaint about his behaviour.

Provincial police officer Leng Kimlong said the man blamed his outburst on the fact his wife denied him sex.

The suspect had been out for drinks with friends in the village and returned home at about 9pm. He asked his wife to have sex but she refused because she was sick.

“He begged his wife for sex many times but she refused,” Mr Kimlong said. “The suspect became enraged, beat and throttled her, then threatened to cut her throat. He also smashed doors, windows and other items in the house.”

Kampong Speu Provincial Court has charged the man with committing violence against his partner. He faces two to five years in prison if convicted.
