THREE Chinese men have been arrested for what were described as “internet crimes” at a guesthouse in Poipet.

They were being questioned at the Poipet police office and set to be sent to the provincial police office last night being arrested on Saturday.

The arrests came after a two-day investigation by town and provincial police, the Interior Ministry’s internal security department and provincial court prosecutors.

A police officer in the serious crimes office said the three men used the guesthouse internet account to extort money from people from China.

The owner of the guesthouse, Chhean Teav, confirmed the arrests and said: “One Chinese man rented a room at our guesthouse and suspicion about his activities led to the arrests of the two other Chinese who were staying at a house across from mine.”

He said he had done all he could to ensure guests abided by the law because he always insisted on them producing their passports on arrival.
