Cambodia is standing behind its support of Beijing’s One-China stance in a bid to strengthen relations between the countries.

National Assembly President Heng Samrin made the commitment at a meeting with Shen Yueyue, vice chairwoman of the Chinese National People’s Congress Standing Committee.

Mr Samrin said Cambodia would be adhering to the One-China policy as a matter of continuity, cabinet chief Keo Piseth said.

The National Assembly President also thanked the government and people of China for providing aid to support the development of Cambodia, and said visits by senior leaders and lower-level officials are accelerating the benefits of cooperation.

Ms Yueyue said delegates enjoyed the partnership between the countries, adding that Cambodia was a good neighbour.

“Current relations between Cambodia and China are the best they have ever been,” Mr Pesith quoted Ms Yueyue as saying.

“Cambodia is a partner of China and can be trusted in political affairs.”

She added that China and Cambodia had helped each other regionally and internationally to strengthen peace, stability and development.
“Cambodia has supported China’s core interests,” she said.
