A 30-year-old Chinese man died after a box weighing more than two tonnes fell on him whilst he was moving it.

The incident happened on Sunday as he helped carry the mirror box from a container in Battambang province’s Ratanak Mondul district.

District deputy police chief Ros Limsoeun said Fan Jinxin and other employees of Wangkang company were transferring the mirror from the container to take to company premises.

“The two-tonne mirror frame dropped on his chest while he was transferring it from the container causing serious injury,” Mr Limsoeun said.

Mr Fan died on his way to the provincial hospital.

Chet Vanny, deputy provincial police chief, said the victim’s body was examined and handed over to his family in Phnom Penh.

“The victim was hit on the chest and his legs were broken,” Mr Vanny said. “It is not a crime but a workplace incident.” The case was the responsibility of the company because it happened during work hours, he added.

Wangkang, the Chinese company, buys agricultural products, including cassava and corn.
