The Russey Keo District police detained two military officers for illegal possession of a weapon and possessing phoney money.
According to the police report, the suspects were detained on the night of March 23 during a routine traffic check on National Road 5. The police seized the handgun and 15 dollar bills of unknown denomination that appear to be part of a “black money scam” operation.
The suspects are Sorn Buntheng, 25, who had the gun on his person and Loth Heng, 29, who claims ownership of the banknotes and the weapon.
A district police officer, who asked to be unnamed, said that the police finished questioning the duo the same night and is sending them to court. He declined to provide detailed information.
In a Facebook video post Mr Heng said that he got the dyed money in another country, which he did not name. He planned to clean them here and bring them in circulation.
