Prime Minister Hun Sen said that French language was not very popular among students who tend to learn English and Chinese.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony on Thursday, Mr Hun Sen said that old people who spoke French became older and have died while few young people spoke it.
He said that Francophone countries asked the government to encourage students to study French language, but they preferred English and Chinese language.
“I also do my best to cooperate with Francophone countries, but we could not force them [ to study French],” Mr Hun Sen said.
“I do not know how the future of French language [in Cambodia] is going to be?” Mr. Hun Sen said, adding that students who majored in law and health were studying French.
