A 31-year-old South Korean man was arrested yesterday morning in Daun Penh district after beating an Australian man and his Cambodian wife.
During a press conference yesterday afternoon, Daun Penh district police chief Huot Chan Yaran identified the South Korean suspect as Lee Jin Woo.
Mr Chan Yarran said the suspect was arrested behind the Royal Palace in Chey Chumneah commune after allegedly beating an Australian man and his Cambodian wife, who sustained minor and major injuries.
“The suspect appeared to have been on drugs and started beating two other people. The Australian victim is seriously injured, while his wife is suffering from minor injuries,” Mr Chan Yaran said. “Police were called and we immediately responded to the incident and we are holding the suspect for interrogation at the Daun Penh police station.”
Mr Chan Yaran said the victims filed a complaint with police after the assault, leading to the quick arrest.
“We are preparing documents, and the suspect will be sent to court,” Mr Chan Yaran added.
