Banteay Meanchey provincial anti-drug police on Sunday evening arrested a 27-year-old woman over the trafficking of 1.5 kilos of methamphetamine near the Cambodian-Thai border.
Poipet city deputy police chief Major Bun Vicheth identified the suspect as Vuth Sreymich, who is to make her first court appearance today over allegations that she was selling drugs to casino gamblers.
“We investigated and followed her for one week before we could make the arrest,” he said. “Then our officers apprehended the suspect after our investigation found proof she was selling drugs in front of a casino.”
Maj Vicheth added that the casino was in Kbal Spean I village and that police are investigating other suspects connected to the bust.
After the arrest, police confiscated 150 bottles of liquid methamphetamine weighing 1.5 kilos, one motorbike, one cellphone, as well as her personal belongings.
Maj Vicheth said the suspect remains detained at the provincial anti-drug police department for further questioning prior to her court appearance.
If found guilty, Ms Sreymich faces at least 20 years in prison.
