A private helicopter carrying two French nationals and their Cambodian translator made an emergency landing in Kampong Chhnang province on Saturday after hitting a bird in Boribor district.
Provincial police chief Loch Vannara said that no one was killed or injured during the incident.
“The helicopter landed immediately at about 11.30am on Saturday,” Mr Vannara said. No one died or got injured.”
“They immediately landed on an island in Kampong Preah Koki commune after the helicopter hit a big bird which caused the glass on the helicopter to break,” he added. “They could not continue to fly safely.”
Mr Vannara said the helicopter departed from Phnom Penh, but declined to identify the company or the names of the people within the helicopter.
Mr Vannara said repairs were being made to the helicopter on the island while the passengers waited to use it to fly back to Phnom Penh.
Cheang Sovanrith, Boribor district police chief, said his officers guarded the helicopter while repairs were being made.
“I and my police officials guarded the helicopter for a night,” he said.
