Close to 650 vendor stalls in Chbar Ampov market were destroyed when a fire ripped through there in the night of March 15. Neither fatalities nor injuries are reported.
The market is in the Chba Ampov district of Phnom Penh, near the Monivong Bridge on National Highway 1.
The fire was started at around 11 pm and raged on until the next morning. The deployment of 23 fire trucks and 1088 cubic meters of water were necessary to halt the fire’s destructive work.
The police are investigation the cause of the blaze that incinerated 646 of the market’s 1447 stalls.
The fire brigades in Siem Reap also had their work cut out on the morning of March 16 – extinguishing the fire at the Angkor Grand Theatre.
