Two youths were killed and three others were seriously injured when they crashed their motorbikes into a car while fleeing alleged attackers in Phnom Penh’s Por Senchey district yesterday.

The accident happened at about 1am along National Road 4 in Chom Chao III commune.

Ven Sakhorn, deputy commune police chief, said there were two groups of youths involved in the incident.

The first group had five people, including three young men and two young women, riding two motorbikes. The second group had seven people riding four motorbikes.

Mr Sakhorn said the two groups had been in a dispute with each other for a long time. Early yesterday morning, the first group was followed out of a nightclub by the second group, he noted.

The second group chased the first group on motorbikes to attack them with long swords and wooden sticks, according to Mr Sakhorn.

“While the victims were speeding to evade the attack by the suspects, they hit a car that was driving in the opposite direction,” he said.

“The car and the two motorbikes strongly crashed, causing two people to die instantly at the scene and seriously injuring three others.”

Mr Sakhorn said police officers on duty nearby rushed to the scene, but the suspects had already fled.

The three survivors were sent to hospital for treatment while the bodies of the deceased were sent to Teuk Thla pagoda, where they would be kept temporarily prior to being collected by their families.

Mr Sakhorn said police still had not identified the victims and called on anyone missing a family member to contact police.
