Holland’s Ruud Van Nistelrooy, a former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker, will bring the UEFA Champions League trophy to Cambodia in April.
As part of the UEFA’s Champions League Trophy tour, Van Nistelrooy is expected to spend two days in the kingdom with the trophy stationed at City Hall on Koh Pich in Phnom Penh.
The news was announced yesterday through Champions League sponsor Heineken beer’s social media page and marks the first time club football’s most prestigious trophy will reach Cambodian shores.
Van Nistelrooy, with 56 goals, is the fourth-highest goalscorer in Champions League history and a three-time Champions League top scorer.
He was also a top scorer in three different European domestic leagues – the English Premier League, Spain’s La Liga and the Netherlands’ Eredivisie.
