Prime Minister Hun Sen has claimed there would be no pressure from Australia over the dissolution of the main opposition party CNRP and the closure of media outlets.

Speaking at the meeting with workers on Wednesday in Phnom Penh, Mr Hun Sen said he will fly to Australia in March to attend the Asean-Australia Special Summit.

He was reacting to a group, which called extremists, who said Australia would put pressure on Cambodia during the Asean-Australia Summit and rejected the claim.

He added that Asean respect a consensus and Cambodia could block any joint statement from the Asean-Australia meeting if he was blamed or put under pressure by Australia.

“Why do we need to depart from Cambodia [to Australia], and let them blame Cambodia in Australia?” Mr Hun Sen said.

“Australia should thank Cambodia, not blame Cambodia,” he said.
