A nanny has been charged for physically abusing two children from the family of a wealthy tycoon in Phnom Penh’s Sen Sok district.
Police charged Su Sophanna, 23, after a complaint from the victim’s father Duong Udomchorvin, 28, more commonly known as property tycoon Duong Chhay.
Deputy district police chief Sok Vuth said Ms Sophanna was arrested on Sunday after Mr Chhay noticed suspicious injuries on his two sons.
“She was charged by the prosecutor with intentional acts of violence and faces from one to three years in prison if convicted,” Mr Vuth said.
She has been sent to Prey Sar Prison awaiting trial, he added.
A local website said Ms Sophanna confessed to pinching and hitting eight-year-old Duong Kimvisal and four-year-old Duong Manaveth because they disobeyed her.
One child’s penis was allegedly injured by the pinching and required treatment at a hospital in Singapore.
Mr Chhay, who is the son of tycoon Duong Ngieb, was in 2015 imprisoned for four months for assaulting and threatening the life of another tycoon’s son, Try Daluch, whose father is Try Pheap.
Mr Chhay could not be reached for comment yesterday.
