A military officer was arrested and charged yesterday by Kampong Speu Provincial Court for threatening to kill a villager during a drunken dispute in Oral district.
Houth Sareth, Oral district deputy police chief, identified the suspect as Dul Sokkhoeun, 31, a military officer living in Oral district’s Ta Sal commune.
Mr Sareth said the court yesterday charged the suspect with death threats and illegal use of a weapon. He faces six months to two years in jail if convicted.
Mr Sareth said the suspect drank rice wine with a group of farmers on Friday night from 8pm until about 12.30am.
He said the suspect then got into a drunken argument with Chhang Sok, 35, who was berating him for being a military officer who could not afford to buy them more beer or wine.
After the argument, the suspect went home and retuned with an AK-47 rifle, which he pointed at the victim, threatening to kill him.
“He was angry at the victim for looking down on him,” said Mr Sareth. “He took the AK-47 rifle, pointed it at the victim and threatened to kill him.” “After threatening to kill the victim, he left with the rifle and also threatened to kill anyone who followed him or tried to take the gun away from him,” he added.
Mr Sareth said the suspect was later arrested by local police, who seized the AK-47 and ten bullets.
