A nanny has been arrested on accusations she physically abused two children from a wealthy family in Phnom Penh’s Sen Sok district.

Police said they arrested Su Sophanna, 23, after a complaint from the victim’s father Duong Udomchorvin, 28, also known as Duong Chhay, a property tycoon in the capital.

District police chief Hour Mengvang said his officers arrested Ms Sophanna because Mr Chhay noticed suspicious injuries on his two sons.

“She was accused of physically abusing the children in her care and sent to the municipal court for further legal action,” Mr Mengvang said.

Mr Mengvang declined to comment on the matter in detail, but said Ms Sophanna allegedly beat the children while their parents were abroad.

A local website said the suspect confessed to pinching and hitting eight-year-old Duong Kimvisal and four-year-old Duong Manaveth because they disobeyed her. One child’s penis was allegedly injured by the pinching and required treatment at a hospital in Singapore.

Mr Chhay, who is the son of tycoon Duong Ngieb, was in the past imprisoned for assaulting and threatening the life of another tycoon’s son, Try Daluch, whose father is Try Pheap.
