Two Cambodians and a Thai national were arrested by Thai soldiers on Tuesday night for illegal logging and transporting rosewood over the border to Cambodia’s Oddar Meanchey province.
The group were accused of taking the wood from a Thai national park in Sa Keo province.
Bun Sokheng, deputy chief of Samrong city police, said Thai soldiers identified the two Cambodian suspects as Mea Ean, 45 and Ngeth Theary, 47. They are both from O-Smach commune, in Oddar Meanchey province’s Samrong city.
The Thai suspect was identified as Pe Simma, 66.
“They were arrested by Thai soldiers as they transported the rosewood from the Thai national park over the Cambodian border,” said Mr Sokheng.
“After the arrests, the Thai soldiers confiscated many pieces of rosewood, a Toyota car, an AK-47 rifle, 209 bullets and other materials from them.”
He added that the three suspects have been charged by Thai prosecutors and sent to prison pending trial in Thailand.
