Police in Kampong Chhnang province have made an arrest over the brutal rape and murder of a woman in Chulkiri district, identifying the accused as the victim’s ex-husband.
The body of the victim, Huon Nary, 21, was found naked in a rice field on Tuesday morning after she had been raped, strangled and had her neck broken and cut with a knife.
Seng Sokkhoeunn, Chulkiri district deputy police chief, said police arrested her ex-husband, Chy Chimrath, 20, yesterday in Kbal Konlong village.
“According to the suspect’s answers, he confessed that he killed the victim because he was angry at her father for separating him and his wife and expelling him from their home,” said Mr Sokkhoeunn.
“To get revenge, the suspect persuaded the victim to meet with him in a forest at night time where he had sex with her and then killed her by strangling her, and breaking and slashing her neck.”
Mr Sokkhoeunn noted the couple had a six-month-old baby together and had divorced last month.
He said the suspect has been accused of premeditated murder and faces a life sentence in prison if convicted.
He added the suspect had been detained at provincial police headquarters for further questioning and was due to make his first court appearance today.
