A 50-year-old woman was allegedly shot dead at her home on Tuesday night by her 55-year-old husband in Koh Kong province’s Khemarak Phumin city. The murder happened at about 8.30pm in Khemarak Phumin city’s Smach Meanchey commune.
Keo Bunsan, deputy chief of Khemarak Phumin city police, identified the victim as Hean Theoun. She was the suspect’s second wife.
He added the suspect was Seng Vibol, a military officer and timber businessman in Koh Kong province who is now at large.
Mr Bunsan said the suspect, who was often jealous of his wife, got drunk and had an argument with her before she was murdered.
During the argument, the suspect beat the victim, who proceeded to ask for a divorce and some money in order to support and feed her three children, but the suspect refused.
“He was angry at the victim for asking for a divorce. He then took an AK-47 and fired two bullets in her chest,” he said. “After killing her, he put the rifle inside his car and fled from the place.”
Mr Bunsan said the suspect was preliminarily charged with intentional murder, adding that police were seeking his arrest to bring him to justice.
