Cambodian embassies have recently repatriated nearly 20 Cambodian nationals who went to China, Malaysia and Vietnam to find work illegally or were duped into forced marriages.

Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Chum Sounry said yesterday that the Cambodian embassy in Malaysia this week repatriated six Cambodian workers who went to work there illegally.

He said the Cambodian consulate general in Ho Chi Minh city also repatriated nine Cambodians, including five children, who were found working in the country illegally.

“The consulate general will hand these nine people over to the Cambodian authorities to take them home,” he said.

Mr Sounry added that the Cambodian consulate general in Shanghai city repatriated three Cambodian women who were cheated by brokers and forced into marriages in China. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cambodian representatives abroad have rescued 42 nationals so far this year.
